Phenomenological Inquiry
-
Phenomenological inquiry is a qualitative research approach that aims to understand and describe the lived experiences of individuals regarding a specific phenomenon focusing on meaning they assign to specific related experiences.
-
Phenomenological inquiry aligns with Constructivism. In 2016 Jamaica’s Ministry of Education introduced the National Standard Curriculum that adopted a constructivist learning pedagogy. Constructive pedagogy operates on the belief that through reflection of lived experiences we construct our own understanding and meaning of the world around us. Constructivism is a theory of knowing vs a theory of teaching. (Branford, Derry, Berliner, Hammerness with Beckett, 2005, p. 53) Where do prior conceptions of Jamaican visual art originate from that influence meaning making?
